How Do I Choose Who Receives My Campaign?
Overview
When creating a campaign, the Audience step is where you define who will receive your message.
Instead of selecting from a single dropdown, audience selection in EVA is built around three core data sources:
- Profiles
- Lists
- Segments
These are managed from the Audience section in the left navigation.
Selecting the correct audience ensures your campaign is delivered to the right group of recipients.
Step 1: Open the Audience section
From the left navigation menu:
- Click Audience
Inside this section, you can access:
- Profiles
- Lists
- Segments
Each of these represents a different way of organizing and targeting your users.
Step 2: Understand Profiles
The Profiles page contains all individual users in your system.
Here you can:
- View all profiles in a table format
- Search by name, email, or phone number
- See key information such as:
- Phone number
- Profile creation date
- Last updated date
At the top of the page, you can also see:
- All profiles
- Active profiles
- Suppressed profiles
Profiles are the base layer of your audience. All Lists and Segments are built from these profiles.
Step 3: Use Lists for fixed groups
The Lists page is used to create and manage static groups of profiles.
Lists are ideal when you want to define a fixed audience.
Key actions:
- Click Create list to create a new list
- Enter a List Name
- Click Create
Once created, a list appears in the table with:
- Name
- Members count
- Created date
Inside a List
When you open a list:
- You can view all list members
- Use Import profiles to upload users
- Use Add Profile to manually add users
Lists are typically used for:
- manually curated audiences
- imported customer groups
- fixed campaign targets
Step 4: Use Segments for dynamic audiences
The Segments page is used to create dynamic, rule-based audiences.
Unlike lists, segments automatically update based on conditions.
Key actions:
- Click Create segment
- Or open Segment Library to use pre-built templates
Segment Library
The Segment Library provides ready-to-use templates such as:
- Engaged 30 days (Email)
- Engaged 60 days (Email)
- Engaged 90 days (Email)
Each template includes:
- A defined goal (e.g., Engagement)
- A description
- Preconfigured criteria
This allows you to quickly create common audience types.
Creating a Segment
When creating a segment:
- Enter a Segment Name
- Add or edit the Description
- Review the Selected template
- Configure parameters such as:
- Engagement lookback days
- New subscriber grace days
Click Create Segment to finalize.
Segment Table
Once created, segments appear in the table with:
- Name
- Goal
- Members
- Last computed
- Created date
Segments automatically update as profile data changes, making them ideal for:
- behavioral targeting
- engagement-based campaigns
- automated audience selection
Step 5: Choose the right audience type
Before sending a campaign, decide which structure fits your use case:
- Use Profiles when working at an individual level
- Use Lists for fixed, controlled groups
- Use Segments for dynamic, rule-based targeting
Why Audience Selection Matters
Audience selection directly affects campaign delivery and targeting accuracy.
Using the correct audience type helps you:
- reach the intended recipients
- avoid sending to irrelevant users
- keep targeting consistent across campaigns
- adapt messaging based on user behavior
Carefully selecting and structuring your audience ensures your campaigns are both accurate and effective.
