SMS Content Builder Overview
What Is the SMS Content Builder?

The SMS Content Builder is the workspace where SMS messages are created, structured, and previewed inside the campaign setup flow. It allows users to build the message content block by block, personalize the message with variables, add links or emojis, and immediately see how the message will appear on a mobile device.
The builder is organized into three main areas: the left panel, the center editor, and the preview panel on the right.
Blocks Panel
The left side of the builder contains the content tools used to build the message.
Under Blocks, users can add four content types:
- Text for plain text content
- Variable for dynamic content
- Link for clickable URLs
- Emoji for emojis
These blocks can be dragged into the message area or added by clicking.
Personalization
Below the block list, the Personalization section provides an Insert Variable field.
This area is used to add dynamic values into the SMS content, such as customer-specific information. In the message body, these variables appear as dynamic placeholders and are displayed with their mapped field label.
Emoji
The Emoji section provides a quick emoji picker.
Users can select an emoji from the picker or choose from the visible shortcut options shown below it. This makes it easier to add commonly used emojis without leaving the builder.
Message Editor
The center area is the main message editor. This is where the SMS content is assembled.
The editor is divided into three sections:
- Header
- Body
- Footer
Header
The Header section appears at the top of the editor and is controlled by a toggle.
This section can be enabled or disabled depending on whether header content is needed.
Body
The Body section is required and is the main area where the SMS message is created.
The message is built using individual content blocks. Each block can contain a different content type, such as plain text or a variable. In the example shown, the message is structured as separate blocks containing:
- “Hi”
- a customer first name variable
- “there”
- “!”
Each block includes controls for arranging or removing content. This allows the message structure to be edited block by block instead of as one continuous text field.
Footer
The Footer section is optional and is also controlled by a toggle.
When enabled, it allows additional content to be added below the main body. This section also includes the Opt-out Message field, where unsubscribe text is defined. In the example shown, the opt-out message is:
Reply STOP to unsubscribe
This helps ensure required unsubscribe instructions are included in the message.
Preview Panel
The right side of the builder contains the Preview panel.
This area shows how the SMS message will look on a mobile device. The preview updates as the content is changed in the editor, so users can immediately validate the final message appearance.
Message Length and SMS Calculation
Below the mobile preview, EVA provides message usage details.
These include:
- Characters
- GSM encoding information
- SMS Segments
This helps users understand how long the message is and how many SMS segments it will consume. In the example shown, the builder displays a total of 10 characters and 1 SMS segment.
Top Bar Actions
At the top of the builder, users can manage and save their work.
Available actions include:
- Hide Preview
- Send Test
- Save
These controls allow users to hide the preview area, send a test version of the message, or save the current SMS template.
Why the SMS Content Builder Matters
The SMS Content Builder helps teams create structured, personalized, and delivery-ready text messages from a single workspace.
It brings together message creation, personalization, preview, and SMS usage tracking in one place, making it easier to prepare messages that are clear, properly formatted, and ready to test or save.
If you want, I can now turn this into a more polished final help-center version in the exact tone and format you’ve been using for the EVA articles.
