Campaign Channel Selection Logic
What Is Campaign Channel Selection?
Campaign Channel Selection defines which communication method is used to deliver a campaign. When creating a campaign, the selected channel determines how the message is formatted, which contact information is required, and which recipients are eligible to receive the campaign.
In EVA, campaigns can be delivered through different communication channels, such as Email or SMS.
How Channel Selection Works

Channel selection happens during the campaign creation step when choosing the Message type.
The selected channel determines how EVA prepares and sends the campaign.
Email campaigns
When Email is selected, the campaign is delivered to recipients using their email address.
Email campaigns require recipients to have a valid email address stored in their profile. During audience evaluation, EVA automatically excludes profiles that do not contain a usable email address.
Email campaigns also include message elements such as:
- Subject line
- Preview text
- Sender name
- Sender email
These fields define how the message appears in the recipient's inbox.
SMS campaigns
When Text message (SMS) is selected, the campaign is delivered to recipients using their phone number.
SMS campaigns require recipients to have a valid phone number stored in their profile. Profiles without a phone number are automatically excluded during audience evaluation.
SMS campaigns typically contain a shorter message format and may include links directing recipients to external pages.

How Channel Selection Affects Recipients
The selected channel influences how Estimated recipients are calculated.
EVA filters the selected audience to include only profiles that contain the required contact information for the chosen channel.
For example:
- Email campaigns include only profiles with email addresses
- SMS campaigns include only profiles with phone numbers
This filtering ensures campaigns are only delivered to reachable recipients.
Why Channel Selection Matters
Choosing the correct communication channel ensures that:
- messages reach recipients through the appropriate contact method
- recipient eligibility is calculated correctly
- campaign content is formatted correctly for the delivery channel
Channel selection also affects how engagement metrics are measured and reported after the campaign is sent.
