How Do I Choose Who Receives My Campaign?
Overview
The Audience section is where customer profiles are organized and prepared for campaign targeting inside EVA.
Instead of using a single recipient list, EVA separates audience management into three connected structures:
- Profiles → individual customer records
- Lists → manually managed static groups
- Segments → dynamic rule-based audiences
These tools are used throughout campaigns, flows, and automation workflows to control who receives messages.
The Audience section allows teams to:
- manage subscriber records
- create reusable customer groups
- import audiences from external sources
- build behavioral targeting rules
- create dynamic engagement-based audiences
Step 1: Open the Audience section

From the left navigation menu:
- Click Audience
Inside this section, you will see:
- Profiles
- Lists
- Segments
Each subsection serves a different audience management purpose.
Profiles
Step 2: Understand the Profiles page

The Profiles page contains all customer profiles stored inside EVA.
This acts as the master customer database used by Lists and Segments.
At the top of the page, EVA displays summary metrics including:
- All profiles
- Active profiles
- Suppressed profiles
You can also access:
- View subscriber growth
- View suppressed profiles
These controls help monitor overall audience health and subscription status.
Explore Profiles
The lower section of the page contains the Explore profiles table.
Here you can:
- search profiles by:
- name
- exact phone number
- review profile information
- identify recently updated profiles
- access profile-level actions
The table includes information such as:
- Profile
- Phone
- Profile Created
- Profile Updated
- Location
Profiles represent the foundational audience layer inside EVA.
All Lists and Segments are built using these profiles.
Lists
Step 3: Use Lists for fixed audiences

The Lists section is used to create manually controlled groups of profiles.
Lists are static audiences, meaning profiles remain inside the list until manually added or removed.
At the top of the page, EVA displays:
- All lists
- Total members
- Selected lists
Below this area, the Explore lists table displays all created lists.
The table includes:
- List Name
- Members count
- Created date
You can also:
- search lists
- sort by member count
- sort by creation date
- select multiple lists
List actions

Each list includes an action menu.
Available actions include:
- View
- Delete
This allows users to open or remove lists directly from the table.
Step 4: Create a new list

To create a new list:
- Click Create list
- Enter a List Name
- Click Create
The new list will immediately appear inside the Lists table.
Lists are commonly used for:
- imported customer databases
- VIP audiences
- event registrations
- manually curated recipients
- fixed promotional groups
Step 5: Import lists from external sources

The Import List button allows audiences to be imported into EVA.
Available import sources include:
- From File (.csv)
- From Klaviyo
This makes it possible to migrate existing audiences into EVA without rebuilding them manually.
Step 6: Manage list members
Opening a list displays the List Members page.
Inside this view you can:
- search list members
- import profiles
- manually add profiles
- review total member count
This page becomes the operational workspace for maintaining the audience.
Step 7: Import profiles into a list

To bulk upload users into a list:
- Open the list
- Click Import profiles
- Upload a CSV file using:
- drag & drop
- file browser upload
You can also download the provided import template before uploading.
During import:
- profiles are created or updated
- imported users are automatically added to the selected list
- processing runs in the background
After upload, the imported profiles become available throughout EVA.
Step 8: Add profiles manually

The Add Profile panel allows individual subscribers to be added manually.
Required and optional fields may include:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Title
- Organization
You can also configure consent settings such as:
- email marketing consent
- SMS marketing consent
These consent controls determine whether the profile can legally receive marketing communications.
After completion:
- click Add profile
The new subscriber is then added to the list and stored inside EVA Profiles.
Segments
Step 9: Use Segments for dynamic targeting

The Segments section is used to create automated rule-based audiences.
Unlike Lists, Segments update automatically when profile behavior changes.
At the top of the page, EVA displays:
- All segments
- Total members
- Computed segments
The Explore Segments table includes:
- Segment Name
- Goal
- Members
- Last Computed
- Created date
Users can also:
- search segments
- filter by goals
- access segment actions
Segments are primarily used for:
- engagement targeting
- lifecycle automation
- behavioral campaigns
- re-engagement workflows
- churn prevention audiences
Step 10: Use the Segment Library

The Segment Library provides pre-built audience templates.
These templates help users quickly create common audience types without manually building logic.
Available examples include:
- Engaged 30 days (Email)
- Engaged 60 days (Email)
- Engaged 90 days (Email)
Each template includes:
- audience goal
- use case explanation
- predefined criteria
- engagement logic
This allows marketers to deploy audiences much faster.
Step 11: Preview a segment template

Selecting Preview template opens a detailed segment preview.
This screen displays:
Segment Setup
- Segment Name
- Description
- Template metadata
- Goal
- Channel
- Use case explanation
Audience Preview
The right panel shows:
- Estimated audience size
- Complete segment logic
- Matching conditions
- Behavioral rules
This allows users to validate the targeting logic before creating the segment.
Users can then:
- edit the definition
- create the segment directly
Step 12: Create a segment from templates

To create a segment:
- Click Create segment
- Choose a template from the left panel
- Configure the segment settings
Available configuration fields include:
- Segment Name
- Description
- Engagement lookback days
- New subscriber grace days
EVA also displays:
- selected template
- goal
- channel
- estimated members
After configuration:
- click Create Segment
The segment will then begin computing its audience automatically.
Step 13: Use the Segment Builder

The Segment Builder is EVA’s advanced audience logic editor.
This tool allows fully custom rule-based audience creation.
The interface includes:
Criteria Library
Available rule categories include:
- Consent & Profile
- Engagement & Rates
- Order Activity
- LTV & Value
- Behavioral Intent
Examples of available criteria:
- Email marketing consent
- Opened count
- Clicked count
- Delivered count
- Refund count
- Lifetime value
Segment Logic Area

The main workspace allows users to define matching conditions using logical structures.
Rules can be combined using operators such as:
- AND
- OR
Example logic:
- Email Marketing Consent = subscribed
- AND Opened Count ≥ 1 within last 30 days
This makes it possible to create highly targeted behavioral audiences.
Segment Metadata
At the top of the builder, users configure:
- Segment Name
- Strategy Goal
Saving the Segment
After building the audience logic:
- click Save Segment
The segment will then compute dynamically using the defined rules.
Why Audience Management Matters
Audience management directly affects:
- campaign targeting accuracy
- personalization quality
- deliverability performance
- automation effectiveness
- engagement results
Using Profiles, Lists, and Segments correctly ensures that campaigns reach the intended recipients with the appropriate messaging and timing.
